1) Praying constantly, fervently, and together; seeking the Will of God in charity,
unity, and peace.
2)
Worshiping with a greater sense of aliveness and fullness of participation by prayerfully and praise-fully proclaiming
the Word of God, joyfully expressing our faith through a variety of liturgy, music, drama, audio-visuals, testimony and possibly
a second more contemporary worship service to attract younger adults.
3)
Emphasizing Christian Spirituality and Discipleship through a School of Spiritual Growth, which will identify
individual spiritual giftedness, foster personal spiritual formation, enrich prayer life, teach a variety of spiritual disciplines,
increase spiritual practice, and provide theological education.
4)
Awakening our members to witnessing intentionally, actively, and clearly God’s message of salvation, so that
others come to Christ and the Church, by providing specific training and practice to our church members on the how to do daily,
tasteful and appropriate personal evangelism; and by being truly open to all persons.
5) Teaching the Biblical story by offering a well organized and scripturally based Sunday School
program and small group bible studies for adults, children and youth throughout the week; and by offering creative new options
for Sunday School classes of all ages.
6) Developing one dynamic community outreach ministry which meets specific physical, social, relational
or psychological needs of people and can be clearly identified by the Independence community as the primary community
service program of the First Christian Church.
7) Reaching-out
worldwide by developing a sister-church relationship with a Disciples of Christ Church in Mexico, whereby we can exchange
visits and offer our assistance to a third-world village; and by participating in all denominational and other special mission
offerings (Heifer Project, CWS Blanket Sunday, etc).
8) Building
youthful vitality within the church by offering more programs, activities and events for younger families, youth, and
children; staffing an Associate Pastor for Youth and Families (with school age children); and providing nursery care for all
church programs.
9) Building a senior adult program,
which is more identifiable and comprehensive, by developing regular fellowship, educational and activity opportunities for
our Keenagers.
10) Raising up the next
generation of believers by increasing our K-12 average Sunday School attendance to 50 or more.
11) Increasing our average annual worship attendance to 175 per Sunday by faithfully and intentionally
inviting others to worship; by caring follow-up; and by the sensitive assimilation of persons into congregational life.
12) Emphasizing biblical stewardship through year-round teaching
of the scriptural basis of holistic stewardship, tithing, and faith-giving.
13)
Streamlining our organizational structure to more effectively and efficiently accomplish “Our Mission”
and to develop an informed capable leadership for the future.
14)
Refreshing our environment through repairing areas of deterioration, redecorating and refurbishing some interior spaces,
adding internal signage, modernizing audio-visual and sound equipment, and redesigning/re-landscaping courtyard area.
