It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers.
                                                                  - Ephesians 4:11

Pastor Terry Hatfield

Our Senior Minister, Pastor Terry Hatfield, was born in S.E. Kansas where he lived through the completion of undergraduate school at Pittsburg State University in 1969. He was licensed to the ministry that same year, being ordained in 1971.  Pastor Terry completed two graduate degrees in theology and counseling.

In addition to pastoral service in the Disciples of Christ and the Church of the Brethren in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Colorado, Iowa and Florida, he was a mental health director in Missouri from 1974 to 1980 and a District Minister in Indiana from 1987 to 1994. He has served on several major denominational committees and continues to serve as a church consultant. Pastor Terry began service at First Christian Church on September 1, 2006.

The Pastor's Principles

For Pastor Terry, the Lordship of Jesus Christ is the beginning, middle and end of life and faith. Pastor Terry also holds dear to five principals for his life journey:

1. FAITH is the basis of life. Faith in God and faith in the basic goodness of others lay a foundation for living.

2. TRUTH is the plumb-line of life. Integrity and honesty measure the stature of a person and are the critical building blocks of any organization or culture.

3. LOVE is the source of life. One's capacity to care for others, sacrifice to something greater than self, and to serve for its own sake, brings joy.

4. COMMUNITY is the comfort of life. We do not live alone and our hearts will not let us. We will search for  "home" in family, office, church, professional organization, or the corner bar and grill....any place...until the heart is content.

5. EXCELLENCE is the quality of life. Only by the best preparation and the best effort, do we experience the best of both "being" and "doing."

His Family

Pastor Terry and his wife, Linda have been married 31 years. Children, Todd and Amy, have seven children. Grandchildren: Ashley, Heather, T.J., Hailey, Lorren, Caleb, and Johnny are a real blessing to Grandpa Terry and Grandma Linda. In his spare time, he enjoys art, golf, genealogy, landscaping, movies and computers. He is also a collector of diecast cars which grace his office bookshelves. Pastor Terry and Linda love animals.  Three cats rule the house.

If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. - Timothy 4:6
